Sourcing guide
How to source loose diamonds for your business
A clear buying brief makes a large inventory easier to navigate. Start with your customer, manufacturing requirements and commercial constraints.
Define the brief before searching
Record the diamond origin, shape, carat range, color and clarity requirements. Specify whether dimensions must fit an existing setting. Keep natural and lab-grown sourcing briefs separate so product descriptions and customer expectations remain clear.
Compare like-for-like specifications
Use grading laboratory, cut, polish, symmetry and fluorescence alongside the four Cs. A similar grade combination does not guarantee the same appearance. Request media and review the report for each shortlisted stone.
Confirm the commercial details directly
Ask the supplier to confirm availability, currency, total price, applicable taxes, payment terms and inspection or return conditions. Only Carat helps you discover inventory; the transaction is arranged directly between buyer and supplier.
