Diamond origin

Natural and lab-grown: two distinct sourcing decisions

Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds have different origins. Professional sourcing should preserve that distinction from the first search through final disclosure.

Keep origin explicit

Natural diamonds form through geological processes. Lab-grown diamonds are produced using controlled technological processes. Do not treat a grading description as a substitute for a clear origin disclosure.

Assess the intended use

Consider the customer brief, budget, size requirements and merchandising position independently for each category. Compare offers within the same origin category.

Verify documentation

Read the grading report and verify it with the issuing laboratory when a verification service is available. Confirm the report identifies the diamond origin and matches the offered stone.
